White Rabbit Sundance Film Festival Debut - Vivian Bang Gives Permission Not To Be Silent

                               By: Cheree Franklin

Recently Vivian Bang showcased her film White Rabbit at the Sundance Film Festival. The film has stirred up some much needed conversation. The inspiration for her film called White Rabbit began by raising awareness for Asian Americans within the performing artists community, who were finding it difficult to be cast within Asian American films. Her thoughts quickly transitioned into creative power with the controversial 2016 presidential election. “It definitely was a catalyst for all of us to have to do something and to voice our authentic voice, to speak up and not be silent. That is how this piece sort of came up.”

Vivian’s film title White Rabbit upholds more power than we perceive, as part co-creator and writer.“White rabbit [is] the permission to not be silent, to be able to call out those things that are uncomfortable. It is the pursuit of truth. I think right now artists have an incredible responsibly to call to service, because the system is broken and it’s not working and we have to call out the truth”.

Vivian decided to take it upon herself to raise awareness and tell these stories that haven’t been told quite that often in today’s society. Vivian created something that couldn’t be white washed. “All of us are artists, if you are making it you are an artist, because this white rabbit never gives up in pursuit.”
