Hotel Rose Review - A Comfortable Stay in the Heart of Downtown Portland

Hotel Rose Review - A Comfortable Stay in the Heart of Downtown Portland

Nestled in the heart of downtown Portland, Hotel Rose—a Staypineapple property—offers the perfect getaway the moment you step through its doors.

Portland, known as the "City of Roses" due to its long history of rose cultivation and ideal growing conditions, finds a fitting tribute in Hotel Rose. The hotel embraces the city’s iconic nickname by infusing the beloved flower throughout its design, creating an inviting atmosphere where guests feel truly taken care of from check-in to check-out.

With its prime location across from the stunning Tom McCall Waterfront Park along the Willamette River, choosing Hotel Rose was an easy decision. You’re not only steps away from Portland’s vibrant downtown scene, but you’re also in the heart of the city’s thriving culture—whether it’s the diverse culinary scene, local artisans, or the contagious energy of the surrounding neighborhoods.

True to the Staypineapple brand, each room is adorned with playful pineapple decor, from the coffee cups to the outlets, ensuring that no detail goes unnoticed. One standout feature of the room was the incredibly plush bedding with a Scandinavian touch. The hotel uses two duvet covers instead of one large comforter—an intentional choice designed to prevent sleep disruptions and provide ultimate comfort.

Another thoughtful addition is the amenity fee, which covers essentials like Wi-Fi, along with elevated perks such as a welcome beverage (choose from wine, beer, or a non-alcoholic drink) and bikes available for rent to explore the city. The hotel also boasts an onsite gym for those looking to stay active during their travels.

Sustainability is at the core of Hotel Rose’s mission. The hotel makes eco-friendly efforts wherever possible, such as providing Staypineapple-branded refillable water bottles for guests to refill at the hotel lobby (with still or sparkling water). Additionally, their daily social hour offers a delightful pick-me-up, featuring cookies and coffee for guests to enjoy.

While Portland is a foodie’s paradise with endless dining options, you don’t have to venture far to indulge in excellent cuisine. Onsite, Bottle + Kitchen serves up an elevated dining experience with locally sourced, seasonal American fare and craft cocktails in a rustic-chic atmosphere.

The menu includes all your favorite comfort food staples, but where Bottle + Kitchen really shines is in its array of impressive, elevated dishes. We had the pleasure of dining there, and let me tell you—there’s no reason to look elsewhere when meals are this good.

Recommendations:

Starter:

Pulled Pork Nachos! These are not your average nachos! Homemade chips piled high with a melty cheese blend, pulled pork, pico de gallo, lime crema, green onion, and cotija cheese. A must-try!

Main Options:

The steak was a perfectly cooked 6oz fillet topped with chimichurri sauce, served with mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and crispy carrots. It’s the kind of meal that lives up to its reputation—and then some.
If you're not in the mood for steak, the Cubano Sandwich is a great alternative, packed with flavor and perfectly executed.

Dessert:

While there’s only one dessert on the menu, the Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream and Raspberry Syrup is a delicious and satisfying way to end the meal.

The pulled pork nachos were INCREDIBLE!

Bottle + Kitchen also offers a fantastic breakfast menu and a happy hour with $2 off mains, starters, and beverages. Both hotel guests and locals frequent the restaurant, and during the summer, live music adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the dining experience, and not to mention it’s down the street from the incredible Waterfront Blues Festival (if you find yourself here during the 4th of July).

From the warm welcome and impeccable service (shout out to Seriah and Aria, who were both incredible during our visit) to the comfortable, homey rooms, and the inviting atmosphere, a stay at Hotel Rose is truly special. Located in the center of Portland, it’s the perfect home base for exploring the City of Roses.
