Let me explain, one night I was watching an episode of a show I usually watch and a young teenager was receiving counseling at a coffee shop named Throughgood Coffee, that episode was life-changing for me not so much because of the message but because of the location of the meeting.

I’ve been looking for a good coffee shop for a while, so I decided to go and take a look and see what this spot was all about, it was the best decision I could’ve made. Throughgood Coffee is not your average coffee joint. The business prides itself on giving back to the community as well. A portion of all proceeds from the coffee shop benefits an organization that provides housing to people who were formerly homeless. Coffee with a cause - sign me up!

So, I developed a routine of going over there on the weekend to drink my coffee, relax, refocus and regroup. If you have ever been to a place and instantly it felt familiar, like home. Well, this is how Throughgood Coffee makes everyone that walks through their doors feel. It is so welcoming you seem to be at peace the moment you walk in. Not to mention that the coffee is amazing, and the Barista’s knock every order out of the park every time.

Not only does Throughgood Coffee have amazing coffees and pastries, it also shares space for the Soul Taco truck! This food truck may just be the best tacos you’ve had! The menu includes great themed taco’s as: The Aretha Franklin, The George Clinton, The Miss Tina, The Diana Ross, and more. The tacos themselves are STACKED with premium ingredients. From brisket and chorizo to fried chicken and mac and cheese – no visit to Throughgood Coffee is complete without Soul Tacos!

As for many business-owners, things seemed to be going so well, and then 2020 happened. With the COVID-19 pandemic looming over us, the owner Pastor Rudy Rasmus made the difficult decision to close its doors.

In a world where everything seems to be unraveling fast, it’s important to find a spot that makes the craziest of days seem like ok - a spot that offers stability. Throughgood Coffee was that spot to me. It’s a café that brings peace and calmness into the lives of many.

I honestly didn’t think they would recover but guess what, they’re back!!!! This past weekend they had their grand reopening I can’t thank them enough and I’m sure the neighborhood feels the exact same way!
