The Studio (MDR) Debuts Latest Location in Redondo Beach

The Studio (MDR), one of Los Angeles’ original Lagree studios and a brand that helped define LA’s modern boutique fitness scene, has officially opened its newest location in Redondo Beach

The new studio marks its sixth location and introduces an exclusive longevity-focused class designed to support strength, mobility, balance, and joint health at every age.

We got the chance to connect with Founder Lisa Hirsch-Solomon on the behind the scenes info and in a sea of wellness and gyms, just how The Studio (MDR) is different from any others.

Identify LA: What makes The Studio (MDR) different from any other group fitness class?

Lisa Hirsch-Solomon: What makes The Studio (MDR) different is that it has never just been about the workout.

Yes, the Lagree method is incredibly effective and challenging, but what truly sets us apart is the experience around it.  I started this studio more than 15 years ago, and from day one, our goal was to create a place where people felt cared for, not just worked out.  We are not a self-check in gym.  We know our clients’ names.  We celebrate their milestones.  We notice when they have been away.  That level of attention does not happen by accident.  It is something we have built intentionally over time.

We also take the craft of teaching very seriously.  Our routines are written fresh and thoughtfully, our instructors are trained to be specific and hands on, and the class is designed to be both physically demanding and mentally engaging.  No two days are the same.

After 15 years, what we are most proud of is not just the results people see in their bodies, but the community they feel when they walk through our doors.  People stay because of how they feel here.  Strong, supported, challenged, and truly part of something.

IDLA: The Studio (MDR) focuses on mobility, did you feel this was missing in today's market?

LHS: I would not say mobility was missing, but it was not always prioritized the way it should have been.

For a long time, fitness focused on pushing harder, moving faster, and chasing intensity.  What we emphasize is moving with control and purpose.  Mobility is about building strength through a full range of motion while protecting your joints, improving balance, and supporting your body over time.

It is what allows you to lift your suitcase into the overhead bin, bend down and play with your kids, or move confidently without pain.  That is real strength.

At The Studio (MDR), the goal is to help clients feel strong today and still be doing this ten years from now.  That means paying attention to stability, alignment, and range of motion.  It is about training smart, not just training hard.

IDLA: Many like to start new resolutions in the gym when its a new year, but fall off. What are your thoughts on this and what advice would you give to someone wanting to incorporate fitness regimen long term?

LHS: Resolutions often focus on extremes. People start the year feeling like they need to change everything at once, and that approach rarely lasts.

Long term fitness is not built on motivation.  It is built on consistency.  The goal is not perfection or intensity every single day.  It is simply showing up, even when it is not convenient.  Small, steady effort over time always wins.

At The Studio (MDR), the focus is on creating an environment where people genuinely want to come back.  When clients enjoy the experience, know each other’s names, and feel challenged in a smart and supportive way, they stay.  The workout is effective, but the structure, accountability, and connection are what make it sustainable.

The advice is simple: find something you believe in, commit to it, and give it time. Real results come from consistency, not seasonal enthusiasm.

IDLA: What is something you've had to debunk when it comes to fitness, routines, and adopting a health focused lifestyle. (Can also formulate this question into 2 myths and 1 truth)

LHS: Here are a few myths that still show up again and again.

The first is that more is always better.  More classes, more intensity, more sweat. That mindset can lead to burnout or injury.  Progress is not about doing the most!  It is about doing the right things consistently.

The second is that fitness must feel extreme to be effective.  Slow, controlled movement may not look dramatic, but it builds real strength, stability, and endurance.  It is not about how flashy it looks.  It is about how it feels in your body over time.

The truth is that a healthy lifestyle is built on habits.  It is not one perfect week.  It is not one challenge.  It is showing up regularly, moving with intention, and choosing sustainability over quick fixes.

With Summer rapidly approaching, it’s the perfect time to get your mindset in the right place in order to reach your goals - long term. Check out the newest studio, located at: 1716 Pacific Coast Hwy, Redondo Beach, CA 90277.
