The Cheek of Her, has a somewhat dark yet melodic style to her music that is rather engaging. Hailing from London, The Cheek of Her, is a rock/pop band composed of: Helen Dooley (Singer, Songwriter, Piano), Sean Kennedy (Guitars, Bass, String programming), and Chris Hardwick (Drums). The band recently released their single, "9 Lives" and will release the full EP, "Black Heart Mantra" on May 2nd.

The second single, "Give up the Ghost", engages her inner Regina Spektor. With a range that is to be noticed this single showcases her versatility as an artist. Challenging as it may be, this single truly highlights her as an artist that is able to wonderfully belch out a range of harmonious notes while keeping her signature witty banter.

The word 'unapologetic' would perfectly describe Cheek of Her and her musicality. As the EP is soon to be released, it wouldbe great to see The Cheek of Her and Regina Spektor go to battle. The undertones of Spektor perhaps mixed with runs of My Chemical Romance, is seen throughout the style of each single on "Black Heart Mantra", and it definitely pays homage to the veterans.

The EP closes with "Black Heart Mantra", and is a strong closer. The overall sound of the album seems to stem from a few favorites in the pop/light rock circa early 21st century. Hard not to find a single from this EP that sits close to your heart and is definitely worth a listen or two.
