Celebrity Talk - Up Close with Laura Pieri

Celebrity Talk - Up Close with Laura Pieri

A fresh new face in music and tv, Laura Pieri has quickly caught our attention.  The Brazilian beauty has a new single coming out and its looking like 2020 is going to her breakout year. We sat down with Laura to chat about her music and joining the cast of Snapchat’s hit original docuseries Endless (previously titled Endless Summer).

The below has been edited for continuity purposes.

IDLA: We are so excited that you are going to be joining Snapchat’s Endless - tell us a little about what we can expect to see?

LP: Well, you can expect to see a different side of me. I really did go on the show to be my authentic self. It was a crazy experience and I’ve definitely made some friends for life. Summer & Dylan are really sweet people who are just trying to figure out what it means to be in their early twenties while being influencers in a super saturated world. I saw them struggle, and for most of the show. We all went through it together. It wasn’t always a stroll in the park  though, I'll admit. However, I can't say much more... if you want to catch up on the drama you gotta watch!

IDLA: When and where can we catch the show?

LP: It premieres this Saturday on Snapchat!

IDLA: You've worked with Cory Rooney, what was that experience like?

LP: It still is an insane experience. He's a visionary and a legend. It's more a continuous learning experience to just be around such talent! He takes the time to teach me what I don't know and really allows the space for me to be own creative person though, which is insane!

IDLA: He's worked with many top-tier performers, what was the key takeaway from your time with Cory?

LP: If you don't feel it, and don't believe it, you can't make anyone else believe it.

IDLA: Breaking into the music industry is tough, how'd you do it?

LP: Wait it happened ?! haha! I feel like we're always waiting for the moment where we're gonna feel like we've made it. I just enjoy being able to wake up and make music that I'm proud of.

IDLA: With music, what's your style?

LP: I feel like it’s definitely pop! But of course, with a little bit of Brazilian in there!

IDLA: Who would you like to collaborate with? And why?

LP: Oh wow, so many people!! I love Zedd's work. But I'd love to work with Emotional Oranges. Their songs “Just Like You” and “Personal” have been at my top 5 favorite songs for a while now.

IDLA: In a previous interview you mentioned J.Lo and Shakira were your inspirations. Is that true? What did you think of their Super Bowl performance?

LP: Absolutely. It was very emotional for me to watch. More than I was expecting honestly. Seeing two, beautiful, powerful Latina women on stage showing off all of their Latina-ness with pride was moving. They went there and did their thing! It was awesome to watch. How could you not be moved by J.Lo singing with her daughter?! The fact that those women are both over 40 also just goes to show the Latinx genetic power haha! You often see so many people using Latinx influences in their music, fashion, dancing and we often go uncredited or are invisibilized by history. For the people who said it was too sexy, guys... Adam Levine was shirtless... actually! These women were just powerful and that tends to bug some people. Yet, no matter how angry some people get at that performance, they did that. They did THAT. History will remember.

IDLA: There were lots of meaningful symbolism throughout the performance. How important is it to you for celebrities to use their platform to advocate for important causes and take a stand against injustice?

LP: I think their statement about putting children in cages was quite the statement! It's basic human rights! It’s important to start a conversation around the Latinx community, and the rights of immigrants. I feel like we spend so much time talking about the political impact of making any decision we forget those are kids, and they're more specifically someone's kid. J.Lo had the guts to really tell the world "that could be your kid.”

IDLA: What's next?

LP: New songs! Stay tuned and follow me on all my socials @thelaurapieri to make sure you're the first to find out when something new comes up.
