The founders of Revtown headed off to Milan, Italy where they combined the science of performance fabrics with the art of high fashion. The final product? The Holy Grail of Jeans.
Identify LA had a moment to catch up with Steve Battista CMO of Revtown Performance Denim for the inspiration behind the brand as well as what the future has in store.
Identify LA: What inspired you to create Revtown?
Steve Battista: What I noticed over my last few years at Under Armour was that the athletic apparel industry was full of technical advancements in fabric and design, but when I returned to the denim world, where I started my career, I realized the entire industry had been stagnant. There was nothing premium for men or women looking for style and good fit in larger sizes. And there was no stretch in real denim. Women’s denim has had stretch in the marketplace for some time, but it’s not real denim. Not a proper pair of jeans, so we set out to make that—the best fitting, softest feeling, most amazing looking pair of jeans that fit everybody.

IDLA: What struggles, if any, did you encounter and how did you get past them?
SB: Getting the right design and fit in the jeans before we launched was quite a process. Fortunately, we found great partners who were willing to push the envelope and design something that has never been done.
IDLA: How has the pandemic affected your business?
SB: We had always planned to sell online and direct to the consumer so that we could provide our premium jeans at a ridiculously low price. When the pandemic hit, our structure allowed us to be nimble. While our delivery times were affected and some marketing initiatives had to be pushed back, we’ve been able to pivot and work with our suppliers to deliver our jeans.
IDLA: What's been the feedback?
SB: By and large our customers have been very understanding if the pandemic affected their orders or delayed a shipment. And our partners have been there since the start, and believed in our vision, so obviously we’re more than willing to be here for them now when they need the extra time on deliveries.

IDLA: In your opinion, what makes these the 'world's best jeans'?
SB: It begins with the athletic stretch yarn we developed with our partner Candiani in Milan, Italy, who have been making jeans for a century or more. But this innovative, new yarn allows for a proper pair of jeans that have the stretch comfort of a pair of sweats or leggings.
IDLA: The option for customizable denim (the "Digital Tailor") is genius! As a curvy girl, it's really a struggle finding jeans that fit. What prompted you to incorporate this?
SB: It goes back to the original idea of Revtown, that we could take something we all know and love, jeans, and make them better with a few tweaks. That meant making premium stretch denim that fit right but still moves with you. Because so many women and men have ordered larger sized jeans in an effort to find comfort, we knew that it would be hard for them to order their actual size in Revtown. So, we created the Digital Tailor to help people get into that mindset and the results have been amazing. Amazing accuracy and very happy customers!

IDLA: What's next?
SB: We are constantly approached and asked about other products, so we have to hold a disciplined focus on jeans and expanding our color offerings and styles for men and women.
